American White Pelicans: A Spectacle at Manitou Lake

Finally getting around to a backlog of pictures, these from a beautiful morning on Manitou Lake with some American white pelicans, and a sassy red-winged blackbird.

Pelicans

There was a pretty good sized pod of American white pelicans swimming peacefully on placid water when we first arrived, but a pesky gull seemed to be deliberately tormenting the big birds.

And that was okay with us, usually the pelicans are fairly boring to shoot but the little gull kept them going.

One little gull was enough to get the massive birds to take flight and give chase. It was quite a spectacle!

There was also a few red-winged blackbirds making a racket. This one seemed to have quite a bit of attitude!

Here are a few more of my favorites from the morning, Hope you enjoy them! I will soon have a few of them available on my website for purchase as prints, gifts and household items.
