We just returned from a few days photographing the elk rut in Rocky Mountain National Park. The last few times Kevin and I have visited the park, including an adventure to Yellowstone, we were thinking we were probably too early for the full experience. This time we thought delaying the trip until October might result in cooler weather, smaller crowds, and perhaps a more vigorous rut season.

Stunning Autumn Hike in Colorado’s High Country
I have to say, this has been a spendid autumn, as fall colors go in the high country of Colorado. Sometimes we get too much rain and sometimes we get an early winter storm that blows the leaves all the way to Nebraska. But this year we have been blessed with warm calm days, and the colors are fabulous.
The War on Wildlife – Episode Three
I'm pleased to announce that I have published Episode Three of The War on Wildlife, the third novel in my series of historical fiction wildlife and romantic adventure stories.
No Greater Evidence
There is no greater evidence of God's work than the majestic osprey. Yesterday's visit to this year's new crop of osprey in the canyon only added to the anticipation of one His greatest mysteries.
New Author Page
I'm proud to introduce a new author page on my website, including a first draft of the cover for my new romantic adventure series, The War On Wildlife!
War on Wildlife – Episode One
I'm pleased to announce that "Episode One - The Intrepid Trio" has been published! The War on Wildlife is my latest novel based on the characters developed in my previous novels, Spirit of the Wolf and Thundering Hooves. I am writing The War on Wildlife in response to the government's recent attempts to roll back endangered species protections on wolves, and wipe out wild horse herds in the Rocky Mountain West.

Osprey and great blue heron, and even a bald eagle were enjoying the morning along the rich fishing waters of the South Platte River, and many took the time to stop and pose for our cameras on Friday.
Photographing Great Blue Heron in the Canyon
Action with the great birds in Eleven Mile Canyon got off to a slow start on Friday morning. Crowds of fishermen arrived early, filling the canyon with dust, and scaring away the birds. As we were repeatedly passed by anglers from the city roaring up the canyon, we knew our morning was going to be limited.

Justice is finally coming down for Hope the wolf pup that was tortured and killed in Daniel Wyomng over a year ago. Click here to read the full story on my Substack, and be sure to go to my published books page to get your copy of Spirit of the Wolf, and Thundering Hooves, my historical fiction wildlife advocacy novels!
Surprise on the Trail
Many mornings as I sip my coffee, I try to think of locations where I might find new adventure and capture amazing scenes that I haven't yet experienced. Most of the time nothing comes to mind, and I just head out to my nearby trail for some exercise. However, I'm also often astonished at the surprising experiences I encounter there.
