I can’t believe another summer is upon us, although my furnace is still coming on at night. It was a bleak spring for photography, with uncooperative weather and $5 a gallon gas putting a damper on my photo adventures. However, we are seeing more and more warm days, the migratory birds are returning, and parks that were closed for the winter are opening for the season. I’m looking forward to good times ahead!

Probably the most anticipated development this month is the health of the eaglets at the nest. It appears all three are growing big and strong, and will soon begin to test their wings, as the west wind blows across the nest and provides them with lift. They are big enough at this point that mama eagle feels comfortable enough to leave them for short periods of time to gather food to satisfy the voracious appetites of the growing eaglets.
The swallows have returned to reclaim their homes in the high country, but try as I might, I remain unable to snag a capture of them in flight! By the time I almost get a lock on one of them, it changes direction and I get a frame full of nothing. Oh well, they are still beautiful, and fun to watch.

The Three Amigos are back together and sprouting felt covered antlers. They look healthy and strong, and I am looking forward to seeing them with a full rack soon!
It was not my plan, but I have decided to continue my War on Wildlife series with a new installment, Warriors for Wildlife. We recently received some disturbing news that a ranch hand shot and killed the breeding mother of the King Mountain pack, even though the rancher was repeatedly denied a permit to kill a wolf. due to a dispute over an open carcass / garbage pit. It’s sad to lose one of our wolves, but even worse now that her pups have been orphaned and have little chance of survival.

Even though I’m still hopeful that the CPW investigation in conjunction with a federal felony investigation will result in justice for the wolf pack and the Colorado taxpayers, it gave me cause to wonder, what if the people started to take justice into their own hands? As I pondered the premise, the idea for a new installment of my War on Wildlife series began to form in my mind, and I’m happy to announce that I have started the writing with a new section in my Substack account for the introduction and contents, and Episode One, which went live today.
The gloves come off in Warriors for Wildlife, as the people rise up and seek revenge for the murder of their beloved wolves. Will my mild mannered protagonists join the fray, or will the ecotage Warriors for Wildlife take the lead? Will Colorado devolve into a dystopian nightmare as taxpayers go to war against the ranching and hunting people, and perhaps even the federal government itself? I don’t know yet, you will have to subscribe to my Substack account to find out!
