I have to say, this has been a spendid autumn, as fall colors go in the high country of Colorado. Sometimes we get too much rain and sometimes we get an early winter storm that blows the leaves all the way to Nebraska. But this year we have been blessed with warm calm days, and the colors are fabulous.

I arrived early that the trailhead, and was soon treated to the sound of coyote song, as the noisy prairie wolves called to each other across the valley. I walked the trail as stealthily as I could, hoping to get a close capture of one of the wild dogs, but this distant shot will have to suffice.
Colors are probably peaking in the Victor area, with beautiful yellows and reds decorating the edge of the forest.

Even the mountain bluebirds seem to be enjoying the beautiful warm dry weather. This little guy was hopping around in the grass in front of me, occasionally taking a short flight in pursuit of another bug to eat.
Here are a few more from my beautiful hike on this glorious autumn morning!
