New Garmin 22x

There’s nothing like a piece of new gear to jump start waning interest in an old hobby, and my new Garmin 22x GPS handheld should do the trick. Back in the day, before blogging and vlogging were even a thing, and social media wasn’t an idea yet, I was posting trail reports on my website.

Bald Eagle in Flight

I was young and spry then, and eagerly training for 50 and 100 mile races. Trail directions were spotty, and occasionally I wandered off the prescribed route. I was in shape though, didn’t mind if I strayed five miles off course.

Lately though, I’ve noticed a little fear of the unknown hindering me from exploring new horizons. Two decades of wear and tear on my Temple have limited my desire to turn around and run five miles back the way I came.

So my new Garmin 22x arrived yesterday, and I watched a few videos to learn the basic capabilities. I ordered a memory card, and some rechargeable batteries which will arrive tomorrow, so I can update the firmware and download the latest maps.

Summer is well upon us in the Colorado high country, and with my new tool I’m eager to hit the trails and explore some new routes! So watch for updates on my experience with a GPS device, and for new adventures in the Colorado Rockies!
