I’m pleased to announce a new image gallery on my website, specifically for showcasing wild horses. I recently completed a long anticipated visit to the Sand Wash Basin herd management area, and captured a few nice images of the wild horses there.

This small band was one of the first groups I encountered, and fortunately I was able to capture this nice portrait of their faces before they trotted over the ridge and out of sight.
In fact that was the main challenge of the day, capturing a good image before the horses ran away.
It is apparent that the horses don’t trust people, thanks to the BLMs history of abusive treatment of them. I’m sure they wonder if every jeep and every drone is just another attempt by the BLM to eradicate the herd for the benefit of the sheep herders who take over the horse area in the winter time.
In addition to a wonderful visit with the wild horses, it was my goal to capture a suitable image for my upcoming book, Thundering Hooves, the sequel to my previous book, Spirit of the Wolf ,about wildlife activists Caleb, Angie and Lacey as they battle to save the wolves of Yellowstone National Park.

So far this is my favorite cover image, and unless I make another visit and get a better picture before the book is published, this will be it!
A Few More of My Favorites
I spent the better part of two days driving around the Sand Wash, and managed to capture over 600 images. Here are a few of my favorites, including one of a beautiful coyote who stopped to check me out.

Stay Tuned!
Stay tuned to this blog as the book Thunder Hooves nears completion. The book is in the editing phase and will be published by Thanksgiving. If you care at all about the plight of our iconic wild horses, please let everyone you know about the book, so we can get the story out. Of course wild horse advocates are well aware of the mistreatment of these beautiful animals, but we need the story to be widely understood before the government will be forced to reconsider it’s 19th century era relationship with ranchers and sheep herders.
