I wasn't sure if I was going to write the final installment of my historical fiction wildlife novels, following Spirit of the Wolf and Thundering Hooves. However, the wildlife situation in the nation has taken such a horrific turn under the Trump administration that I feel compelled to complete the series.
May finds us on the precipice of an unimaginable ecological catastrophe. Mining, ranching and hunting interests have aligned with the new administration in an all out blitz to strip away all reasonable environmental and species protections. The judiciary in it's zeal to oppose every trivial move Trump makes, is setting itself up to forfeit it's power on issues that actually matter.
It was an exciting day yesterday, I received a notice that my historical fiction novel Thundering Hooves, recently sold at one of the bookstores I've been working with.
I saw a report first thing this morning about the first cattle depredation from one of Colorado's new wolves from Canada. I wondered, bow many cattle froze to death this winter, how many starved, how many died from disease. Why aren't those losses reported in the paper. Why are wolf losses the only ones getting any press?

I'm excited to announce my new profile on Substack, called Colorado Coloquey!
It was an awesome, albeit cold morning photographing bald eagles and deer in the canyon. A cold wind was blowing down the canyon from the frozen peaks of the Continental Divide, but we stood in the cold until we were near hypothermia, hoping for the hero shot of one of the great raptors flying down to the river to catch a trout.
The final push to publish my novel Thundering Hooves is on! The editing will be complete this week and final proof copy ordered. I just wanted to drop a quick post announcing the acquisition of an ISBN for Thundering Hooves! I successfully uploaded the manuscript to Amazon and ordered a proof copy, which should be arriving Monday.
Summer is finally behind us and most of the tourists have gone home. Peace and quiet have returned to the Eleven Mile Canyon and as a result, so have our raptors.
