I'm always glad when the Independence Day holiday is in the rear view mirror. Some of the summertime tourist furor dies down, and I can finally get into a warm weather routine. The animals too, seem to sense the change in pace and begin to settle in to some kind of predictable balance.

There's nothing like a piece of new gear to jump start waning interest in an old hobby, and my new Garmin 22x GPS handheld should do the trick. Back in the day, before blogging and vlogging were even a thing, and social media wasn't an idea yet, I was posting trail reports on my website.

June Wildlife Photography Newsletter
May was a great month for wildlife photography in the Pikes Peak region. Many birds have returned to the Pikes Peak region, including mountain blue birds, many species of sparrow, hummingbirds, swallows and much more. We are still looking forward to the return of the snowy egret, which we have yet to spot this season.
The Birds are Back
The birds are back in town... at least they are at Manitou Lake. Our short adventure there yesterday yielded, blue heron, American white pelican, red-winged blackbirds, hummingbirds, an osprey, and one ground squirrel looking for a meal.

Finally getting to my May newsletter, after a month of hard work on my new substack account. May has been an exciting month, with the end of the long Colorado winter, and the return of many species of birds to the high country rivers and lakes.

Osprey and Eagles: Colorado’s Raptors Return
This was a day that I have been eagerly awaiting for months. The osprey have completed their 4,000 mile journey across two continents, to arrive in my favorite Canyon some time this week.
