Another exciting moment at the eagles nest this weekend… Our eaglets are starting to test their wings! It won’t be long before they will be exploring the canyon and learning to catch fish!
Eagles don’t hatch all their eggs at one time. Each of these little guys is probably about a week apart in maturity, but as you can see, all three are getting quite adventurous! When we arrived, the one stretching his wings was high on the branches to the left. He caught a little air as he floated back down into the nest, and then continued exercising his wings for some time.
We also were privileged to spot several more critters as we cruised up and down the canyon. A young mule deer was coming down to the river for a drink, and a Double Crested Cormorant was sunning himself on a rock. That was until he decided on a little bit of white water rafting for some fun. There are also a number of great blue heron populating the waterway, and of course the usual complement of merganser ducks enjoying the warm Rocky Mountain summer sunshine.
