There is no greater evidence of God’s work than the majestic osprey. Yesterday’s visit to this year’s new crop of these magnificent raptors in Eleven Mile Canyon only added to the anticipation of one His greatest mysteries.
Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead...”

We still have one, or possibly two juvenile osprey in Eleven Mile Canyon this season. These two young raptors don’t know it yet, but soon they will experience an overwhelming urge to take flight.
As autumn winds down and the nights grow colder, our newest residents will begin a 4,000 mile journey to a place they have never been nor are even aware of it’s existence.

These beautiful white hawks will be guided by Providence to their winter home on the coast of South America, where they will remain for their first three years of life.
Sustained by the abundant waters of the ocean, they will mature to adulthood before joining the summer migration back to North America, where they will find their lifetime mate, build a nest, and produce a family of their own.
This process will be repeated annually as they meet their mate at their their nest to lay eggs and raise their chicks to flight.

Right now however, they are busy honing their fishing skills and building strength for their epic flight.

The red-tailed hawk however, will not have a pleasant winter in the warm waters south of the equator. His main prey will be hiding beneath the deep snows of winter, as temperatures plummet to -40 on occasion in the bitter Rocky Mountain winter.
