We arrived at Eleven Mile Canyon to a scene few could imagine or have been so privileged to witness. Our bald eagle nesting pair was soaring together in what could only be described as a moment of pure joy as they closed in on each other and clasped talons in a beautiful dance high in the blazing blue Colorado sky.

Kevin and I were astonished to see the scene in the sky unfold, and were slow to leap out of the vehicle with our cameras. Unfortunately I missed the talon dance, but was still able to capture them in close proximity as they circled each other in the sky. I made sure to select my custom function 3 on my Canon R7, which dials in my bird photography settings. This shot was captured with a 2000th of a second, in Tv mode, with my 1.4x teleconverter and EF 100-400mm L mark II.
It was very unusual to see them flying out together to gather materials for the nest. Usually one or the other will go while the other waits, but on this day the two were inseparable. It appeared they were both aware that the moment was at hand for the fertilizing and laying of the eggs.

In addition to a few more of my favorite still images below, I also put together a nice five minute YouTube video on my channel.
