Books

Steven W. Krull is primarily an outdoor writer and a prolific photographer who focuses on the natural world and wildlife, in addition to a fiction author who writes in a dramatic style. He has written titles such as Wildlife Photography in the Colorado Rockies and Storm Warning: How to photograph the Colorado Rocky Mountain Winter. While his book Spirit of the Wolf: Forever Wild Eternally Free is classified as a “Romantic Adventure,” its dramatic elements stem from the inherent majesty and struggle for survival in nature, not just the kind of prose typical of a human-focused dramatic novel.

The wilderness calls to the soul, a silent, primal summons Steven W. Krull answers with every shot of his camera and stroke of his pen, capturing the raw, untamed spirit of the natural world in all its harsh beauty. His work plunges the reader into a realm where survival is the only narrative, where the wolf’s howl echoes not as a plea, but as a testament to an eternal, fierce freedom, painted against the unforgiving canvas of the Colorado Rockies. The true drama in his pages lies not in the machinations of human hearts, but in the epic, silent battles of the wild, a world where the changing light on a mountain peak is as significant as any contrived tragedy.

The War On Wildlife

War on Wildlife book cover

The War On Wildlife continues the adventures of the intrepid characters from my first two novels, Spirit of the West and Thundering Hooves as they try to protect wildlife from government and ranching thugs intent on eradicating any animals that get in the way of their profits and power.

This book will be published episode by episode on my Substack in the War on Wildlife Section, with Episode One already available to read for free!

Thundering Hooves

Thundering Hooves (Spirit of the West) brings the story of the plight of our iconic wild mustangs into the light. It is a historical fiction account of Picasso, the real life King of the Sand Wash Basin herd.

This historical fiction account brought to you through fictional main characters and some fictional activities interspersed with actual historical events, will bring the story of the despicable treatment of these animals by the government agency entrusted to care for them, to even more people through this gritty and raw tale of love, loss and triumph. Thundering Hooves is now available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

“WOW!!! Wonderful. I just finished it & am emotionally exhausted, yet totally inspired.” – Bette

The Wild Horse Refuge, Craig Colorado

The outcry against the BLM roundup of 684 Sand Wash Basin mustangs in 2022 gave birth to the Wild Horse Refuge, dedicated to returning wild horses captured in BLM roundups to freedom on the land they are accustomed to. Your donations here go directly to Wild Horse Refuge, and your gifts are used to care for the horses and purchase more land so we can rescue more horses.

Spirit of the Wolf

Spirit of the Wolf (Forever Wild Eternally Free) is a beautiful coming of age historical fiction story that begins in the Bay Area of California when photographer Caleb meets beautiful Lacey who is putting herself through fashion school as a dancer in a local club. The two fall in love while advancing their careers, which threaten to tear them apart. As Caleb and Lacey struggle to define themselves, Caleb reads of faraway Yellowstone National Park, where another species is struggling to find it’s place in the world.

Spirit of the Wolf can be purchased in paperback and eBook on Amazon and paperback on Lulu Publishing.

“What really stands out about Spirit of the Wolf is how you seamlessly weave education and emotion together. The history of Yellowstone’s wolves, the reintroduction projects, and the story of Luna the alpha female are fascinating and deeply moving” anonymous review
