No Time for Trad – For me the choice was easy. The Republicans in Colorado are on the war path against our new wolves, and the sheepherders want the wild horse mustang herds dead.
I did some research on traditional publishing, and when I got to the cautionary warning that even if accepted, it could be two years before Thundering Hooves, and Spirit of the Wolf would see the light of day.
Two years, I thought. All the wolves and horses might be exterminated by then. All the taxpayers money we have spent in Colorado trying to save the iconic animals could be wasted, as the government scrambles to kiss the ranchers asses.
My manuscripts said exactly what I wanted them to say, and I had already been white listed by my editor for my sports column in the paper, so I was confident in my editing abilities.
As a pro photographer, I had already been to the wilderness to shoot the cover images. In fact, capturing the animal and model images for the covers was my favorite part of the entire process!
I had already purchased a block of 10 ISBNs from Bowker a few years prior, and my pages were already formatted for printing, using Indesign.
Why would I wait two years to help the animals? Granted, marketing is my weakest skill, but for the animals I was willing to step out of my comfort zone.
Considering the current hostility toward our precious living legacy, I’m glad I did.
However, any help I can get to spread the word about my books, and the plight of our furry friends would be most welcome!
